GA4 Implementation

GA4 Setup & Implementation

Your GA4 numbers are probably wrong. I build implementations you can actually trust: events mapped to real KPIs, e-commerce tracked correctly, and data validated against your source of truth.

Most GA4 setups are built on default settings and guesswork. The result: events that don't match your business, conversions that go unrecorded, and ad spend optimised on bad data.

Whether you're starting from scratch, cleaning up a broken setup, or migrating off Universal Analytics, I build a GA4 implementation around the decisions you actually need to make. Every event, every conversion, every property setting chosen deliberately and documented so your team knows what they're looking at.

What you get

  • Custom tracking strategy aligned to KPIs
  • Enhanced e-commerce implementation
  • Custom events and parameters
  • Data validation and QA
  • Documentation and handover
  • Defined scope and timeline up front (typically 2–4 weeks)

What's Included

Measurement Plan

Before any tag goes live, I map your business KPIs to GA4's event model. Every event, parameter, and conversion defined in writing so nothing is guessed.

Property Configuration

Data streams, filters, attribution settings, data retention, and user properties set to match your reporting requirements. None of the defaults that quietly skew your numbers.

E-Commerce Tracking

Full enhanced e-commerce implementation covering product views, add-to-cart, checkout steps, purchases, and refunds with proper product-level data.

Custom Events

Bespoke event tracking for your specific user interactions: form submissions, video plays, scroll depth, file downloads, and business-specific actions.

Conversion Setup

Key events marked as conversions, Google Ads integration, and attribution model configuration to accurately measure campaign performance.

Data Validation

Rigorous testing and QA to ensure data accuracy. I validate tracking against your backend systems so you can trust the numbers.

* Some tracking functionalities will depend on the client's setup and technical infrastructure.

My Process

Discovery & Audit

I start by understanding your business, your users, and your current measurement setup. What decisions do you need data for? What's working? What's broken?

Measurement Strategy

I create a detailed tracking plan mapping your KPIs to GA4's event model. This becomes the blueprint for implementation: every event, parameter, and conversion clearly documented.

Implementation

I configure GA4 and implement tracking via Google Tag Manager. Clean, efficient, and built to scale as your needs evolve.

Testing & QA

Every event is tested across devices and scenarios. I validate data against your source of truth: whether that's your CRM, e-commerce platform, or backend systems.

Reporting Setup

Custom explorations in GA4 that surface the insights you need. No digging through reports to find what matters.

Handover & Support

Full documentation of the implementation and ongoing support to ensure your GA4 setup continues to deliver value.

Common questions

How long does a GA4 implementation take?
Most implementations take two to four weeks. A clean setup on a single site moves faster; e-commerce tracking, custom events across subdomains, and server-side tagging add time. You get a defined scope and timeline before any work starts.
Why don't my GA4 numbers match Google Ads or my backend?
Usually one of three causes: consent banners blocking tags before users opt in, ad blockers and browser privacy (ITP) dropping client-side hits, or events firing inconsistently. The durable fix is a measurement plan plus server-side collection so data is captured once, correctly, at the source. A data audit finds which of these is hurting you.
I already had Universal Analytics. Do I still need GA4?
Yes. Universal Analytics stopped processing data in July 2023, and GA4 is Google's only current analytics platform. If you still rely on old UA reports, you are working blind. I migrate the setup and rebuild the events that matter to your business.
Will my historical Universal Analytics data carry over?
No. GA4 does not import UA data. I set up a GA4 to BigQuery export early, so you start building an owned, exportable history from day one.
